Pajara & Ajuy

Pajara is a beautiful little town in the middle of the Island.

Myriads of birds & butterflies flutter around the tall shady trees & bushes.

We saw several large beautiful monarch butterflies - but I didn't manage to take any photos - they were too quick!

The church (built in 1687) is very ornate inside & the stonework around the doorway is intricately carved with Aztec designs. Nobody knows why!

In the courtyard outside the church is a "Noria" - an ancient donkey driven bucket wheel for drawing water.

We enjoyed a coffee in a rustic courtyard ...

...and then continued towards the coast.

We stopped off at our favourite oasis....

The road was a bit dodgy though!

We continued to Ajuy, a sleepy fishing village with black sand and huge waves.

After lunch we walked along the cliffs with the powerful breakers crashing on the rocks below.

The weather was gorgeous and we stopped to admire the view on the way home.

David on the dunes!

Last week we had a bad storm with tremendous winds and torrential rain.
It was the same storm that devastated Madeira.
This bird was clinging on to a palm tree in our garden for dear life as the storm raged all around.
