Back to the Sunshine!

We arrived back on the island on 5th March.

One of our first trips was to the quiet fishing village of Los Molinos. On the way back we spotted a rough track leading into the mountains.

In this wilderness we saw a herd of wild goats.

The one on the left had a newly born kid. Just as well there were no locals around as baby goat is a favourite delicacy!

We then came upon something totally unexpected - a vast expanse of water in the midst of this barren lanscape. It was actually a disused reservoir but now it was a haven for birds and wildlife.
The next day we travelled South and explored the remains of a stone age settlement at Pozo Negro before having lunch at a restaurant on the beach.
Our friends, Brian & Denise had arranged for us to share a villa with them near the beautiful, typically Spanish, town of Gran Tarajal.

The reason for our visit was that, once a month, there is a special arrangement to hold a meeting in English in the Kingdom Hall of Gran Tarajal for the benefit of the many interested people (mainly from Africa) who are studying the Bible in the south of the island.

The villa was beautiful , situated in the countryside, just outside Gran Tarajal.

It was very quiet and peaceful. All we could here was the distant sounds of the goats and the crowing of a cockerel.

The Kingdom Hall is lovely.

This is the foyer - very tastefully decorated!

Although the Spanish congregation who meet here are only about 28 in number, the hall is quite large and very comfortable.

The youngest member of the congregation is named "Success" She was born on a roundabout on the way to the hospital!

A brother from Lanzarote gave the talk and there were about 25 in attendance - all participating and very appreciative of this special arrangement made for their benefit.
Matthew was taking the Watchtower study & David was reading.

On Sunday morning we drove down to the beautiful little fishing village of Taralejo.

Like most Spanish towns they not only have playgrounds for children with swings and roundabouts etc ....

.... They also have a special "playground" for older people like us!

It is fitted out with all sorts of exercise equipment.

It is no wonder that the pensioners here all look so young and healthy!

After a good work out we were grateful for some liquid refreshment at another cafe on the beach. we then headed further south to La Lajita which is another very pretty fishing village.

We had lunch at Oasis Park. There was a Canarian band playing and a market where I bought some local goat's cheese. The restaurant is situated next to the zoo so, while we were eating, we were entertained by the monkeys - who seemed to find us equally fascinating!

On Sunday evening we dined at a lovely restaurant on the sea front at Gran Tarajal.

Our fillet steak in Masala sauce was flamboyantly cooked beside our table and we all agreed it was one of the best meals we had ever tasted!

On Monday morning we did some shopping in Gran Tarajal where David bought a good pair of shoes reduced from 83 euros to 14.95 - bargain!

This is the harbour at Gran Tarajal where an English sister and her recently baptised daughter live on one of the boats.

This is Las Playitas, another beautiful village built on the side of a cliff. We enjoyed another excellent meal in the restaurant you can see on the left.
Our final visit was to Giniginamar before returning to the villa where Brian had a swim before heading home.

It was a really interesting trip and, thanks to Brian & Denise, we discovered many places we had never seen before.
